I began running to improve my cardiovascular health. I ran once or twice a week and heavily struggled to run a single mile without stopping. Despite the challenge, there was a strangely nice feeling that kept me going, even without a deep attachment to the sport at that time.
Running shifted from a goal to an art-form. The strides themselves became the focus as I worked on distance and time. Within two years, I set my sights on my first marathon in Vermont, USA. Little did I know, this all-consuming passion would reshape my life.
After my first marathon, my perspective on running changed. I didn’t want to get faster; I wanted to go farther. I trained daily and attempted my first 50 km race, only to DNF due to hypothermia. Instead of sorrowful contemplation, I chose to push further...there were infinite kilometers to conquer.
My first official ultramarathon, an international race, rewarded the countless hours of training. I placed third in my division for the 64 km race and ran a negative split. Over the years, my love for the process grew, leading to 1st place finishes and many miles on hidden trails around the world.
Everywhere I travel, I run. If you haven’t noticed, I wear one hat on every single run. It has traveled near and far with me to every destination I’ve been to. Interact with the map to see where I, and my trusty hat, have gone!
My favorite of the United States is Alaska. The views stretch far and wide, and there are endless trails to run alongside wildlife for endless miles.
Home to my running sensei, Maciek, and dear friend, Bethany, Zakopane rests in the heart of Poland's Tatra Mountains. Its challenging terrain conceals stunning waterfalls and hidden World War II sites, waiting to be discovered.
As a tribute to my hometown, Mount Airy, NC, sits within the embrace of the Blue Ridge Parkway. It showcases peaceful rolling hills, friendly herding dogs, and historic cemeteries all framed by the mountains upon every twisty turn.
Gambarogno is an awe-inspiring municipality in Switzerland. Nestled beneath the towering peaks of the Alps, the quaint town is framed by breathtaking mountain ranges. The blue lake glistens below, while snow-capped summits majestically loom in the distance.
